McAllen Fire Station No. 8: A New Addition to Serve a Growing Community
McAllen, TX – On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, McAllen city officials and community members gathered to celebrate a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Fire Station No. 8. This event signifies the beginning of practical construction and marks the beginning of a new era for the Tres Lagos community and the rapidly growing Northside of McAllen.
The facility will be McAllen’s first new fire station in over a decade and was made possible through the generous donation of land by Rhodes.
Fire Station No. 8 is an essential addition to the Tres Lagos community’s emergency response system. It comes with a capacity of four firefighters and one fire engine company, with provisions that allow for additional units and staff when the need arises. Providing an ample floor space of 10,547 square feet, it includes a kitchen, dining room, dayroom, dispatch area, and two apparatus bays, just like all other McAllen fire stations. However, what sets this facility apart is the presence of dorms and restrooms designed to cater to the needs of the female firefighters in the department, making it one of its kind in the city.
The total cost of the McAllen Fire Station No. 8 is $4,633,500. The project architect is Gignac & Associates, LLP, and NM Contracting LLC is the project contractor. The estimated completion date of the facility is October 2024.
