This month, we had the pleasure of chatting with Samuel Carames, the owner and manager of Reset Specialty Coffee. This is a local favorite at the Shoppes at Tres Lagos. Having celebrated their one‑year anniversary in August, Reset has quickly built a loyal community of regulars—you may even be one of them!
Samuel shared that his decision to open Reset Specialty Coffee at Tres Lagos was driven by his love for the community’s unique environment. “It doesn’t feel like the Valley,” he explained. One of his favorite aspects of Tres Lagos is the sense of connection and activity. He likes that there are people walking throughout the community and that it is full of families and children. Samuel enjoys greeting his regulars, including professors from Texas A&M, students from IDEA, and residents from Tres Lagos and beyond. He is passionate about coffee and he loves discussing coffee with his regulars.

When asked what sets Reset Specialty Coffee apart, Samuel highlighted their carefully curated selection of roasters from across the U.S. “The coffee we offer is truly unique to the Rio Grande Valley,” he said. It’s not just the coffee that makes Reset special—the spacious layout, filled with comfortable seating, provides a welcoming space for everyone to relax and enjoy.
Looking ahead, Samuel has big dreams for Reset. He wants his coffee shop to become the “old reliable at Tres Lagos.” He is looking forward to watching families grow as they visit his shop throughout the years. In addition, he is excited about expanding the menu, adding new coffee drinks and other offerings.
